National Poetry Writing Month – 4/23

I Prefer Not to Know

I don’t understand deliberate ignorance
I grew up with no computers
Just books
Old books
History class never went beyond
World War II, and yet
I knew more about history, philosophy, health
From reading fifty year old encyclopedias
Than so many now know
Even though they have all the knowledge
In the world
At their fingertips-
They choose not to know.
