Remembering Edgar Allan Poe on the anniversary of his birth

Standard

There is a countenance which haunts me, turn as I will. There is an hysterical laugh which will forever ring within my ears. -The Oblong Box

(This book and a matching volume of Sherlock Holmes stories were among my Christmas gifts from my mother in 1985. Look at those beautiful gold-edged pages!)

    • Yes, I’ve read quite a bit of his work and my favorites are The Masque of the Red Death and The Tell-Tale Heart. Have you seen the movie The Raven with John Cusack as Poe? It’s a lot like From Hell. The only thing that really bothered me about it was the language wasn’t true to the period.
